Second, which is very common trait to a Filipino family is “Close Family Ties”. Each member of the family, mother and father helps and unites despite the trials they encounter in life. Closeness maintains the grandparents live with the family for as long as they like. More than the Filipino family values the relationship of their relatives, even down to their third cousins, and so on and so forth.
Third, Filipinos are loyal to their families and friends. If you want a friend, it would not be hard for you to gain "loyalty" to a Filipino, which is another strong trait. The term "utang na loob" implies a strong sense of gratitude and loyalty to a person who did a good thing for someone. Filipinos treasure their families and friendships under any circumstances. The Filipino's trust becomes evident when he/she shares with you both his joys and sorrows. A Filipino family and friend is someone you can lean on.
Another trait of the Filipino is "pakikisama", which can be roughly translated as comradeship or being cooperative. It has many manifestations in Philippine society, one of which is extending support or offering help to neighbors who are in need. "Pakikisama" reflects the "bayanihan" spirit, which involves cooperation among fellow men to come up with a certain idea or accomplish a certain task. While "bayanihan" refers to a community-support deed, "pakikisama" has a more individualized sense.
Filipino families are religious. Majority of its people are Roman Catholic. The Philippines is the only country where Christians predominate. Typical Filipino families go to Church every Sunday to attend mass. And after Church they normally go out for a lunch or dinner together. Filipino family pray rosary every night asking and thanking God’s blessings and forgiveness. Being religious is one of the key that makes Filipino family strong as they pray together and help each other to do what is right and wrong.
These are some of the characteristics of a Filipino family. The family I have may not be the perfect family but it’s the family whom taught me how to love and be faithful to them no matter what obstacle s and hardships we have and yet to come.
